A Vision of Morning

We thank Brendan Armitage for serving as our guest devotioneer for this week’s devotional reflection. He was recently traveling by plane, and had this experience.

“People look East and sing today.  The Lord of life is on His way…”

One of the distressing things about flying East (and overnight), is that only a few short hours after they serve you your supper and turn out the lights… they turn the lights back on and tell you it’s time for breakfast.  And indeed, the dawn of a new day breaks just over the horizon.  Ready or not, it’s quite a sight.

The inky black in recess lies above, and then with incredible subtlety mixes the indigo, then navy blue and sky blue, lower to lemon and tangerine down to the gray cloud line that sets the horizon.

Perhaps that is how God sees each moment in each of us, through the vision of morning?  That impressive possibility of infinite color and variety in every moment?  Making the earth new again, and again, and again?

Through God, all things are possible.  He works through you.  He works through me.  Each of us yoked to God’s vision of what could be, if we’d only stop.  And see.

The glory that is God and the beautiful world He gives us to inhabit.

Today, take yourself back from your morning routine, and try to sit in wonder at the gift we take for granted.  Life, abundant all around us and in us, through Him.

Amen.”
