Summer Music at New Day

As the leader of the band at St. Peter’s New Day Praise Service, I listen to a lot of music.

When our musicians meet each month to plan the music for our services, we all try to bring along some pieces that we’ve heard that we think might be a good fit for the service. We strive to choose music that emphasizes the message present in our scripture readings for the day, and that is fun to sing!

Summer Music Selections

I thought I’d take the opportunity to share some music that will be featured in June and July at our worship services. Go ahead and have a listen, and sing boldly when these come up in worship!

King of Heaven

In our reading for June 26, Jesus tells us to go out and proclaim the Kingdom of God. Performed by New Day Band favorite Paul Baloche, King of Heaven invites Jesus and the Glory of God into our lives.

Sing this one with us on June 26!

Breathe

On July 3, Jesus sends out his disciples. But the road isn’t going to be easy. In this song by Charlie Hall and Kendall Combes, we ask the Holy Spirit to give us comfort and to give us the strength to carry out the work that Jesus has sent us out to do.

The New Day Band will offer this song during communion on July 3.

Let it Rise

Listen to this fantastic version of Holland Davis’ Let it Rise as performed by Greg Garay and Sherrie Gladney at an Easter Cantata service. This performance captures the joy of the resurrection and the hope we have for God to work through our lives!

Get ready to belt this one out on July 17!

Manifesto

Our reading for July 24 comes from the 11th chapter of Luke:

He was praying in a certain place, and after he had finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.” He said to them, “When you pray, say:

Father, hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come.
Give us each day our daily bread.
And forgive us our sins,
for we ourselves forgive everyone indebted to us.
And do not bring us to the time of trial.”

–Luke 11:1-4

Manifesto, by Canadian Christian rock band The City Harmonic sings the tenets of our faith as an epic power ballad. YES.

We’ll have this for special music on July 24 — but be ready to jump in on that chorus!

Come and Worship

Come sing these songs and more with us at New Day! Tune back in in August for a look at more summer music.

Contemporary Worship Leader

I’ve been leading music in worship since 2001, and I love to work with others to offer up our musical gifts to God. When I’m not playing guitar and most anything with strings, I build websites and help nonprofits tell their stories.
